Community and Government Support and its Relationship to Symbolism and Athletic Identity among Specialized Basketball School Players

Abstract

Chapter One: Introduction and Importance. Sociology is considered one of the most important human sciences, striving to understand human nature within its social context and to uncover the factors that influence behavior and shape relationships within society. Social support is essential for individuals, as its extent and level of satisfaction influence how individuals perceive and cope with various life pressures. It is a relatively recent concept, addressed by the humanities and sociologists within their research on social relations. The emergence of the term "social network" represents the true beginning of the concept of social support, since an individual's perception and evaluation of their level of social support depends on their understanding of the surrounding social network, which represents the general framework encompassing the various sources of support they receive from their family. Ambition is a fundamental dimension of personality structure, a defining characteristic, and a manifestation of self-expression. It is a variable that supports an individual's behavior. Many individual achievements and the progress of nations and peoples can be attributed to a suitable degree of ambition, especially among athletes in specialized schools or sports talent schools. These are among the most prominent modern educational institutions that aim to discover and nurture athletically gifted individuals at various stages. At an early age, by providing a comprehensive scientific and training environment that combines academic education with specialized sports training.

Basketball is a team sport that includes reflexive movements and complex motor skills, requiring specific psychological, social, and physical factors. Given the researcher's interest in the junior stage, as they are the athletes of the future and this is a crucial stage of life fraught with difficulties, problems, and crises, the researcher aimed to study social support and its relationship to the level of ambition among players in specialized basketball schools, based on their training age and academic level. This is due to the significant impact such support has on all aspects of their lives.

Research Problem: The researcher observed a scarcity of studies focusing on social support in basketball. Therefore, the researcher sought to study and understand the relationship between social support, level of ambition, and specialized basketball schools. The research objectives were to develop and standardize a scale for social support, level of ambition, and its domains among players in specialized schools, and to establish and scientifically analyze the correlations within the research sample.

Human Scope: Junior basketball players in specialized schools in the Central and Southern regions. Time frame: The period from 12/12/2025 to 4/3/2026
Spatial scope: Sports clubs and specialized training centers under investigation.
